As we have done for over 20 years, the gates of the Allan Houser Sculpture Garden will be open for all to visit one of the most spectacular locations in the country. Resting atop the juniper covered hills between the villages of Cerrillos and Galisteo, the Allan Houser Compound is situated 25 minutes south of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Now encompassing nearly 110 acres, the Compound began to evolve in 1976 when Allan and his son, Phillip Haozous, acquired 50 acres of open land in southern Santa Fe County. Once a year we open to the public, the Allan Houser Foundry and the Allan Houser Foundation Archives. In addition to the Sculpture Garden this is a rare opportunity to visit the place where Allan Houser worked and created some of his world renowned art. For more details and directions call +1.505.471.1528 xt. 6 Plan Your Trip The Allan Houser Compound is located 23 miles south of the Santa Fe Plaza, just of Hwy. 14 (The Turquoise Trail). you should allow around 30 mins travel time each way, and an hour or more for your visit. We do have restroom facilities and will supply water. There are no other catering facilities but there are a few good restaurants in nearby Madrid (6 miles south) and the excellent San Marcos Feed Store Cafe is 4 miles north on Hwy 14 (reservations recommended - 505-471-9298). The paths in the gardens are gravel so please wear good shoes. A golf cart is available for those needing assistance. For the most part tours are self guided although we will run guided tours at regular intervals. Average temperatures are in the high 80's and you should dress accordingly for the sun and heat. Tours of the Allan Houser Foundry will be at 11.30 am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm. Because of the nature of the work at the foundry we will not be pouring bronze while members of the public are present. The Allan Houser Foundation Archives will also be open for visits. The archives feature a huge collection of orginal works, maquettes and other personal effects. We look forward to seeing you! |
